Saturn Imaging 2020

High SNR images are created from video frames. Processing flow is:

  • Collimate
  • Focus
  • Stabilize images (PIPP)
  • Select and stack images (Autostakert3)
  • Wavelet process (Registax)
  • De-rotate and stack (WinJuPos)
  • Resample and final process in PixInsight

Checking focus with a Bahtinov mask. Correct focus is when the 3 lines are equally spaced like cat’s whiskers.

Wavelet processed
De-rotated and stacked in WinJuPos. Notice the distinct RGB mis-alignment. The red edge in the forward ring vs the blue edge in the far part of the ring.
Reprocessed
Here is the same picture with the RGB alignment applied. Red is shifted 1 in x and 2 in y, Blue is shifted -1 and -3 respectively.
